Pre and Post Treatment

Instructions for pre treatments and post treatments

What to do before a facial?

There isn't too much you need to do to prepare for a facial the day or week before, but there are a few things to note.

  • Skip any strong at-home facial treatments the week before your appointment. You should even avoid gentle exfoliation for a few days before, since exfoliation is one of the key steps in a pro facial.

  • Do not tan or burn near your appointment (or ever!) because your esthetician will have to perform a gentle facial to help with the sun damage, instead of one that can really target any deeper concerns you have with your skin.

  • You should also bring in a list of the skin care products you use at home. In addition to your daily skin care products, make sure to bring a list of your medications, medical conditions and past skin conditions so your esthetician can choose products that won't interact. Even over-the-counter medications can significantly affect your skin.

  • Check your calendar. Do you have a big event coming up? Let the us know ahead of time if your facial is the same day of your event. There are certain treatments and techniques they will avoid and they may have recommendations for the best time to schedule your facial for maximum results.

  • Don't wax your skin for 24-48 hours before your spa facial. Waxing too soon beforehand could lead to irritation and a stinging sensation.

  • Be prepared to discuss your top skin concerns and your goals for your skin. Your esthetician will help you with specific treatments, but they will also help transform your at-home routine to best tackle your goals. Estheticians are licensed experts in skin and skin care – they should be your go-to resource for information.

Lastly, relax and enjoy your facial!

What to do after a facial?

The after care for a facial is very simple just followed the following instructions post facial.

  • follow your esthetician's recommendations. Regardless of what type of facial you received, your esthetician should put together a specific at-home care agenda for you – so make sure you follow it.

  • Wear broad spectrum SPF

Since any facial is stimulating and detoxifying, you want to make sure to use sunscreen to protect the fresh skin revealed after the facial. If you spend time in the sun without a GOOD SUNSCREEN you'll get sun damage, which can negate the positive effects of the facial.

  • Skip the gym. Can you workout or go to the gym after a facial? You should avoid hitting the gym after your facial for about 24 hours, because you might over stimulate the skin due to sweating and increased circulation.

  • Wait to exfoliate. You'll also want to give your skin a break from exfoliation for 48 hours after a facial. This is because your skin experiences a professional level of exfoliation during your spa facial and you don't want to over exfoliate.

  • Use a light touch

When you do exfoliate or even cleanse the skin next, make sure to not scrub too hard. Always be gentle to your skin, especially after a facial. You can wear makeup after a facial, but your skin will be more sensitive so stick to makeup that isn't perfumed and doesn't have ingredients that would clog pores or lead to breakouts.

  • NO PICKING!. Avoid picking your skin at all cost. This will avoid bacteria and pigmentation.

What to do before your laser appointments?

To get the best out of the treatments just followed the following:

  • Stop Plucking and Waxing. One of the best ways to prepare for hair removal treatment is to cease all forms of plucking and waxing. As laser hair removal works by seeking out the roots of the hair, it is important to leave the areas to be treated alone for at least four to six weeks before the first appointment.

  • Shave the Area. Shaving the area is encouraged as long as no plucking or waxing is going on. A shave 24 to 48 hours before the appointed date is important. While the hair root is invisible, the laser can seek it out within the pigment. By shaving, you reduce the chances of burns with the hair being below the skin’s surface.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure at least two weeks before the laser hair removal procedure. Keeping the affected areas out of the sun also includes avoiding tanning beds and self-tanners. They can result in skin discoloration after the laser treatment. In addition, sunburn can lead to excessive pain and blistering.

  • Put Down the Bleach. As you now know, laser treatments seek out the root of the hairs. Your hair pigment or color can be found in the root and it absorbs the lights produced by the laser. This is how the hair is permanently destroyed. With bleached hair, the pigment is altered and it becomes increasingly difficult to target the hairs. Before any laser hair removal treatment, it is important to stop bleaching. This is enough time for the hair roots to grow back to their original color, making it easier for the laser to do its job easily and efficiently.

  • Check Your Medication. Before going under the laser, so to speak, you must speak up about all the medications you are taking. This includes all oral and topical medications. Some medications can affect your laser treatment and make them less effective. Other forms of medication can make the skin sensitive and more likely to burn and blister. Important medications that must be mentioned include antibiotics, birth control, acne, and photosensitizing medications. Depending on the medication, it is not a must that you stop taking them. However, the knowledge will have the laser professional adjust your treatment and proceed with added caution. Apart from medications you are already taking, you should also divulge any new medication you take at your next appointment.

  • Remove Makeup or Creams

When it comes to laser treatments. This is because the ingredients contained in those beauty products can affect the result of laser hair removal procedures. All makeup and cream products must be removed from the area being treated. Instead, you cannot go wrong with soap and water to clean the area to be treated.
